If your brake peddle goes to the floor, you have lost brake fluid from your master cylinder in the engine compartment. Check your rubber brake hoses at each of your wheels, look for any signs of leaking brake fluid at your wheels, connections, lines, and master cylinder.

What do drum brakes do?

Looks kinda like a big steal cereal bowl behind the tire. The brakes press outwards (from the inside) creating enough friction to stop or slow the vehicle. Disc brakes look kinda like a shiney ring. The brakes press inwards on either side of the ring, creating enough friction to........you get the idea.

Kinda-sorta. Usually the front brakes come on faster and harder, so at casual driving the rear brakes might not see much use at all. But at hard braking, all wheels will see some brake action.
