Because America is one of the world's super-powers, every American president has an effect on the world in some way. Barack Obama is no exception. The policies he and his administration promote will often affect other countries. On a more personal level, as America's first black president, he has become a role model for many young people. He is also very popular overseas, especially in much of Europe and in various parts of Africa.
