When Great Britain declared war on Germany on August 4th, 1914 Canada's status as subservient to Great Britain meant that it too was now at war.

World War II:
Britain declared war on Germany after the German invasion of Poland on September 1st, 1939. Canada followed suit, one week after Great Britain, on the tenth of the month.
