Castro has never been an ally of the US, he has expressed his contemp and hatred of the US on numerous occasions. During his hours long speeches he always refers to the US as a capitalist country that wants to exploit Cuba's resources.
Although after the defeat of Batista, the US government offered Castro its help and good will, only to find out that he was a marxist fanatic in bed with the USSR.
