D-Day led to the liberation of France and many other countries in Europe. D-Day weakened German defenses. Although there were many casualties the Allies were able to win the war and impact the world today so we can learn from past mistakes.

Decisively. The Russians were desperate for support from the west, despite events in Italy. It was the beginning of the end of Nazi domination in Europe.
