Delaware's colonial government was the first to ratify the Constitution on December 7, 1787, after the Connecticut Compromise, creating our bicameral legislature (the U.S. House and Senate), was approved by the Constitutional convention.
William Penn, when he founded Pennsylvania, was afraid that his colony wouldn't have a seacoast. So he was permitted a grant for the territory of Delaware. But soon the people of that area grew discontent wit the Pennsylvanian legislature ruling over them and demanded that they break apart. Two men named Mason and Dixon were the surveyors for the boundary line.
