He wrote a letter to the newspaper's editor (wanting to get involved with the conflicts with the Jewish people, they wanted to declare Israel a state) and he explained how he wanted to help Jewish resistance in Palestine. He got a response and they hired him. He started with translating Hebrew to Yiddish then moved up from there
