Alaska is the only state that borders on Canadian territory. All of the other states border Conadian provinces. Alaska borders the Yukon Territory of Canada.
Spain, Portugal, and England, along with France all wanted to establish territories in the Western Hemisphere. The reasons were to gain more territory and to take advantage of the wealth that was to be found in the New World. Especially gold and silver. The nations all sought to gain an advantage over each other, so exploration and conquest helped them do this.

Through the French and Indian War, when the French were defeated they lost all of their colonial territory in North America. The french had lost all of their land, and also the natives.
There is no such thing as a citizen of England in international law. People of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all British citizens in international law. Canada is an independent country and anyone who wanted to become a Canadian citizen would have to apply to the Canadian authorities in the same way that a Canadian would have to apply to the British authorities if they wanted to become a British citizen.
