Japan had a fuedal age but didnt go much futher than that on its own. when the europeans came to japan the technology advanced.to answer the question: japan was (and to a certain degree still is) very centered around tradition and culture. where as the europeans tended to throw out tradition in favour of whats more practicle. samurai where still in place until around the mid 18 hundreds while europes having its industrial age, for example.
1. Europe Didn't have restrictions on how many castle one could have, but under the rule of Tokugawa, Japanese daimyo were only allowed to have one castle.
2. The Europeans would have catapults that they used to fling small rocks, dung and heads (human) at enemies, whereas the Japanese had muskets, though they both had bows and arrows.
3. Early on, castles were only temporary fortresses that the Japanese only used at war, whereas the Europeans always used, during a war or not.

Wherase the European peasants were not necessarily divided into actual roles, the Japanese were. As well the addition of a Shogun is different from any role preseted within European feudalism. Since within European feudalism the monarch would fufill both the role of the emperor and the shogun in one.
