Chamberlain attempted to appease Hitler's territorial ambitions by the infamous summit at Munich in 1938. Stalin through Molotov signed the pact bearing his name with Germany's Ribbentrop allowing for the partition of Europe under pretexts of nonaggression vis-Ã -vis one another. Both attempts failed an by 1941 leaving much of Eurasia, Africa and the Pacific literally on fire from German and Japanese actions.
