ancient Greeks have influenced us in architecture. They also refined ideas such as democracy and freedom of speech, improved literature and invented documenting historical events (the first historians), they invented the Olympic Games and drama, made advances in medicine, gave lots of words to the English language (like 'treasure' and 'austere') and gave birth to the Greek alphabet, which was used as a basis for the Latin alphabet in southern-Italy (which was then Greek).
