Trying to write an essay on this for A.P. World History with no prior knowledge at all. Some research gave me this:

Architecture - 1 of the 2 major cities in Ancient Ghana became an Islamic "hub" where many mosques were built

Politics - Many high ranked politicians and royal subjects including the King were Muslim and/or Muslim interpreters

Demographics - Most people in Ancient Ghana who converted to Muslim were Sunnis, while only a small amount of them were Shi'ites

Trade - Islam was brought to Ghana by trade from Northern African societies, and Ghana then spread Islam to the rest of Western African civilizations such as Mali and Songhei.
