Islam is an Arabic word that means submission to God, the one and only one God. In this sense Islam started with start of universe creation. However Islam per Torah revelation to Moses is called Judaism; Islam per the Bible revelation to Jesus is called Christianity; and Islam per Quran revelation to Muhammad is called the same name Islam. Islam religion per God revelation of Quran to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) started with the revelation of the first verses of Quran to prophet Muhammad through the Angel Gabriel (Jibril) while the prophet was meditating in a mountain cave, called Hiraa, in Mecca (Makkah); that is currently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This was in year 610 AD.

When Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) in AD 610 received revelations whilst alone in a cave he knew that he would face many difficulties and opposition but he took the responsibility that was given to him and started preaching the message of Islam.

• Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) was born around 570 CE.
• Around the year 610 CE, Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), while in Mecca (presently in Saudi Arabia) began to receive Quran (holy book of Islam) revelations from God.
• In 622 CE, he left Mecca with his followers (due to sufferings in Mecca and being subject to assassination plot) to a city in the north named Yathrib (later Medina), where another Muslim community had begun to grow. The date of this emigration is the beginning year for the Muslim calendar.
• When the prophet died in 632 CE, Islam was on its way to becoming the faith of millions of followers.
• In Islam; Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) is regarded as a prophet - his role is more like that of Moses in Judaism rather than Jesus in Christianity. He is not regarded in anyway as divine, but the best of mankind and the most dear to God. Islam is not a new religion founded by Prophet Mohamed (peace be on him).
• Islam with the current disciplines is an extension to the religion preached by all the Prophets of God right from Adam, Noah, Abraham, David, Solomon, Jacob, Moses, Jesus (peace be on them all).
• Prophet Mohamed (peace be on him) is the last and final Prophet of God who called for Islam according to the Quran revelation given to him by God. Islam is the completion of the message which has been given to all the different Prophets.
