Samuel Adams was a first cousin of John Adams. He was a very active revolutionary very much before others joined him. He helped organize active resistance to English rule, set up lines of communication, and helped organize militia. He may have helped plan and carry out some raids on the English including perhaps the Boston Tea Party. He was a fiery politician in Massachusetts and Boston Town Meetings and was a member of the Continental Congress.
Samuel Adams was an important figure to American History because he was a founder of the Sons of Liberty, was the principal organizer of the Boston Tea Party, and he helped make the Declaration of Independence...Does that help? :)

However, it is most unlikely that except for both being in the Boston area, there is any other connection between today's Sam Adams beer and the Revolutionary war patriot and possible eighteenth century brewmaster.
