Its used to secure items that if the became dislodged has the potential to make a multi-million dollar aircraft a giant lawn dart. Its used on helmets to secure it to the pilots head holding the targeting systems necessary to deliver close air support to Marines on the ground so its made it to the same ranks as Duct Tape as far as importance in todays world but without it alot of ground pounding infantry would be six feet under if a pilot blacksout due to the fact that his g-suit isn't secured using hook and pile tape aka VElCRO

After a arm injury, i was given a splint. This was attached to my arm using velcro. This ment when changing, or taking a shower, i was able to remove it with my good hand. Something i would be unable to do using buttons, zipz or other fastenings. In conclusion, velcro has affected peoples lives, by making it a whole lot easier.
