Japan: It's the Japanese war tactics that lead to Americas' victory. Examples: Leaving America's military objectives undefended (Airfields), sending mass amount of troops in one direction to attack, flawed tunnel warfare- stayed for days without fresh air and survived with limited amount of water and food (don't forget the narrowness of the tunnels where fire can burn all of them inside the tunnels), the blindness of honour which lead to Japan having massive amounts of causalities through suicide.

A victory can be hollow if the reason for the victory would have made no difference to the overall outcome. An example of this would be the Nazis victory at the Battle of the Bulge. Their victory was in a way a Pyrric victory as they pretty much won their objectives which was to force the Allies back and gain a chance to get a quick victory for morale but in doing so, they lost much of their tank and artillary which led to a faster advance across Europe by the Allies.
