People perceive things in different ways depending on their point of reference. For example: If you grow up around sports minded people, sports jokes are funny. If sports don't really mean anything to you, those same jokes would not make you laugh. If you are an avid reader of the newspaper, you are more aware of what is going on in the world around you, thus the political Cartoons that are posted in the newspaper will make you laugh because you know the information that is being shown. If you do not know what the cartoon means, it would not make you laugh.
