Here's the answer i have not sure if this answers the question though, but the Colonies knew the geography of their surroundings since they were living there.... Unlike the British who were sent to fight the rebels, they hardly knew the terrain, giving the rebels an advantage.
↑↑↑ Incorrect, the true asnwer is the fact that:
1) the colonists knew the terrain better, while the redcoats didn't truly live there. They had to rely on maps and intuition most. 2) the coastline and the rivers helped the colonists trap the redcoats, the french surrounded them with fleets blocking escape by sea, and the colonists blocked the route by land. 3) the climate was harsh in winter, it got very cold and wet where the redcoats were trapped. food was hard to find, and many of the troops were sick. This made them surrender in the end.
The colonies' geography had a tremendous impact on the war. The British weren't used to the weather in the Americas, so the winters were extremely harsh on them, particularly during the Siege of Boston in 1775-76, where Washington had the British held up inside Boston during the winter. Many froze and many starved before the British eventually gave up and sailed away.
In 1777, British General Burgoyne aimed to capture Albany, New York. This would have effectively split the colonies apart, cutting New England (the northern colonies) off from the rest of the colonies. The path they took from Canada put them to a crawl. Woods were extremely thick, and swamps were numerous. They had to continuously stop to cut down trees, or build makeshift bridges to cross bogs. At one point, they barely covered a mile in a week. Burgoyne never reached Albany, he was eventually defeated at Saratoga, a huge victory for the Americans which convinced the French to help us out.
My knowledge of the revolution is amateur at best, I'm sure someone else could provide a more detailed answer
The geography of North America helped greatly for the colonists/patriot's side of the war. They were used to the territory and knew how to navigate the lang. The British army had mostly stayed at the ports when they did come, until the war. They did not know this new land and were used to their England.
the Americans had an advantage over the british even though the british ary was superar. the Americans knew where every thing was and how the climate will change over time.
