The idea that it was the manifest (or clear and obvious) destiny of the United States to encompass all land between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans encouraged people to move west and settle lands held by Native Americans. It encouraged military acquisitions of land such as resulted from the Mexican War, and direct land purchase. It was also used to advocate for annexation of part or all of Mexico and for intervention in the Cuban Insurrection.

Beginning in 1830, Native Americans were forced to give up their land east of the Mississippi River.

How did manifest destiny alter people's lives in the United States?

Manifest Destiny was the belief that Americans would expand westward, and that was God's will or something like that. Through manifest destiny, the government wanted to obtain the land westward such as the louisiana purchase, hawaii, cuba. All their territorial expansion. Involvement in conquering these territories resulted in a ton of land for the american people, money, resources which were obtained through wars. Along the lines, America gained some foes, and also established power by expanding their nation. As Americans gained more land, the citizens had new opportunites (in the new lands). Some decided to create utopian societies (which didn't really work out in the end); some established ethnic neighborhoods. Others created homesteads. Remember that farming was a lot more common back then, especially in the west (newest land).

Why did the manifest destiny started?

Manifest destiny meant that it was the God-given right for Americans to settle the land from sea to shining sea. It was the "responsibility" of Americans to gain the valuable natural resources that the land had to offer. Manifest Destiny took place from about 1820-1860, and then Homesteading began. Americans moved west from all different lifestyles, places, and even countries to obey "God's Command", to pursue religious freedom, and sometimes just to do something new, daring, exciting, and adventurous. The new settlers migrated mostly in covered wagons called "Prairie Schooners". The men, women, and children walked most of the time to help save the oxen's strength. Pioneers endured harsh conditions and left behind their former lives to pursue manifest destiny. Although there are many accounts of the hardships that the settlers faced, they were causing hardships for another group of people. The Native Americans had to face new diseases and new people on the land that was always theirs. They were forced off of their land so that manifest destiny could be continued. Manifest destiny was helped along by the Oregon Trail, the Railroad, Mountain Men, The Independence of Texas and the war with Mexico. What the people involved in manifest destiny did so long ago has helped shape who we are as a country today.
