The Patriot Minutemen on Lexington Green exchanged fire with British regulars. As the British continued on their march, more militia members gathered along their route. One unit blocked their way at Concord Bridge and withstood a volley of concentrated fire. From that moment on, the militia harassed the regulars, firing from behind trees and stone walls all the way back to Boston. These skirmishes became known as the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
