Mexico's territory was home to several native American civilizations until the 15th century, when contact with Europeans (Spanish conquistadors) was established. Of special importance are the Aztec and Mayan civilizations, whose traditions have been kept, or became a mixture with traditions from Spain and other "Latin" (i.e.: Italy, France, Portugal) countries. Some examples include Day of the Dead or traditional cuisine.
