it increased the tension between the USSR and the West as both parties showed through the Berlin Blockade that they were firm on their stand. Stalin would not lift the blockade until Berlin was under the full control of the USSR and the USA would not stop flying supplies into Berlin until the blockade was lifted.

It was a non-violent conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union.

yes. It prevented a war between east and West Germany (which would have resulted in a war between the east and west powers) as tensions were growing high in Berlin. there was huge emigration from east to west, causing problems for Ulbricht who was losing all his most skilled citizens (doctors, etc were leaving to the west). East Germany's economy was collapsing and the state was in a desperate condition (also because the USSR was draining it of all its resources). the wall ended these tensions (the west's economy was doing fine under capitalist rule and with a new currency - deutsche mark). It also emphasised the split between the east and the west.

The Korean War was a conflict strongly influenced by the Cold War. With CHina becoming communist in 1949, and Korea looking that way in 1950, the US foresaw a 'domino effect', in which countries would fall like dominoes to communism. The US thus joined the side of the south, while China and Russia aided the north, with the UN eventually helping the south as well. The Korean war can therefore be seen as a proxy war of the greater ideological struggle between east and west that ruled the world at the time.

What did the Korean War have to do the Cold War?

The Korean war was caused by communist North Korea invading democratic South Korea, so it's the spread of Communism. The U.S intervened and fought communist Chinese (and Soviet) troops to end the war. So it is a part of the Cold War because it's one of the little occasions that the U.S fought communist troops.

How was the Korean war an extension of the ideological conflict of the cold war?

1. It wasn't an extension. 2. The cold war wasn't a war. It was a tense arm's race in which each side "eyed" each other (didn't trust each other) and was waiting for the other to make a bad move (go for his gun-go for that nuclear button). Then the shooting would start (atomic war)...but it never did. 3. The Korean War was "a gunfight" during that "tense arm's race." A limited war in which no one dared to use a nuke and begin WWIII. Or MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction). Really simply put: The Korean War was a hot battle of the cold war. So was Vietnam. Except they won that particular hot battle.

Why is the Korean war a cold war hot spot?

I'm south Korean so I'm versed in this 미국 국무장관 애치슨(Dean Gooderham Acheson)이 발표한 미국의 극동방위선. Acheson annouced that south Korea was excluded from defendance of democracy so north Korea thought that they could reunite south Korea in communism and war broke out and usa and other democracy-country took part in the war and UN helped south Korea and then china (communism) took part in the war in order to help north Korea!!and soviet gave support! so it is part of cold war

How is the end of the Korean war related to the cold war?

Cold War is when US and USSR is fighting on the economic functions (capitalism, communism). Korean War started because USSR wanted to spread Communism to the Pacific. Why? USSR was a group of Communist countries and same with US (they had NATO, USSR had something called Warsaw Union) so the more members, the bigger they become. When China and Northern Korea (North didn't exist yet officially) attacked south, US and UN stopped them from conquering the peninsula. So the Korean War is started, and is, officially, going (although the armistice was signed, it didn't end)

What was the comparasion between the Korean War and the cold war?

Korea was a "hot" portion of the "cold" war. No one died during the "Cold War" because NO WAR was fought. Cold War meant NO WAR. Cold War=Military Standoff. Cold War was just a "Term" for not shooting at each other, but ready to push the buttons once they got the word to do so. The Korean War was a war, like any other shooting, killing, destroying war. It just so happened to be the FIRST war (Besides Indochina) of the Atomic Age involving the US.

Was the Korean war a war?

So, was the Korean WAR a... WAR. Well I suppose we'll never know.

Why did more people die in the war on terror than the cold war?

If you do not count the Viet Nam War and the Korean War then that statement saying there were more deaths in the war on terrorism than in the Cold War would be true. However, it is not true. If you consider the Cold War fought as an arms race and conflict of CIA vs. KGB that statement would hold true since there were less deaths. Since the Viet Nam War and the Korean War and the War in Afghanistan (with Russia) were all part of the Cold War then it is not true. So more people died in the Cold War than in the War on Terrorism.

What stared the cold war?

The cold war was stared when the USSR tried to get all the land they occupied after the war on the European front was won and have them be communist nations. The problem was when Truman announced the Truman doctrine witch said all threats of communism was our problem. so when each the Chinese civil war, Korean war, Vietnam war started we got involved to try to stop the expansion of Communism so thust he cold war was born.

Which battle ended hostilities in the western territories in the war?

If the question is referring to the cold war. There were no battles fought. Cold War means NO FIGHTING. NO KILLING. NO BATTLES. However, there were two "Hot" battles (which were actually wars; so one could say two hot wars fought during the cold war) fought between the powers of Communism and the powers of the Free World: The Korean War (1950-1953) & The Vietnam War (1961-1975). The communists lost the Korean War (they failed to conquer South Korea); but won the Vietnam War (they conquered South Vietnam).
