Germany had been a point of conflict since the Cold War began, as the Soviets and the capitalistic countries (USA, Britain, France) were still undecided on who would get control of Germany after WW2. The Berlin Wall eased the tension between the communists and the capitalists as there were no ambiguities between the sectors of Germany. They ignored each other and lived in their own separate worlds.

Prior to the Berlin blockade, there were no cold war tensions, the main concern to get Europe back on its feet as people were living in rubble.

Little did anyone realize just after the war of the USSR's intentions of ruling the whole of Europe, that the teason for Soviet rush to Berlin was to place Europe in Soviet hands.

The failure of the Americas too. place troops in Berlin would have signaled to the Soviets that it was OK for them to occupy Europe up to the English channel.

It was after the Soviets gave up their blockade that it sank into the minds at the top that the Soviets were attempting to do what they had envisioned years earlier and so beginning the cold war
