"Domesday" is an old form of the word "Doomsday".

The Domesday book was a record of land and resources owned in England in 1085-1086. It was compiled for the purpose of levying taxes. The process was so thorough and invasive that people compared it to how they thought God would collect information for the Last Judgement, or Doomsday.
