they helped FIGHT ! The Irish fought on both sides. The Continental Army was composed of somewhere between one third and one quarter Irish - it is said that Gaelic was commonly used in the ranks. Many of the Officers were of Irish descent. Many were Scots -Irish. Some British regiments contained Irish that had formerly fought in the Continental Army.

No, they were too busy getting drunk in oireland. Plastic paddys like to say that 1/3 of washigntons continental army were Irish to take credit for it. In reality it was the ulster Scots that played a large part in the war. These ulster Scots from northern Ireland were called Scots Irish when they went to America, because they originally came from lowland scot land and northern England, but had moved to the plantation of ulster, for 100 years before starting the move to America. They were presbyterian puritans. 90 percent of Irish in America didn't come until the 1840s, when they got a wee bit Hungary in oirelnd:)

From my textbook, no, the Irish had nothing to do with the American revolution.

the Irish were in Ireland. the American revolution was fought between Great Britain and the 13 colonies. they were fighting for the independence and freedom they wanted but weren't getting because of Britain.
