The Mexican War between the United States and Mexico began with a Mexican attack on American troops along the southern border of Texas on Apr. 25, 1846.

The clash between the two patrolling armies was called the Thornton Affair for the leader of the small US force, Capt. Seth Thornton, who was captured in the attack. The US declared war on Mexico on May 13, 1846.

The War between Mexico and the US started when the United States annexed Texas into the country. Mexico didn't know about the annex and when they found out they blamed United States for taking Texas without the Mexico's permission. United States only replied by saying that Texas had asked the US to annex it and they had simply agreed. James Polk, the current president at the time, wanted to start a war with Mexico, but lured Mexico to start it, so US didn't look bad. He lured Mexico to start the war by sending a general and some troops near the Mexicans and did things that the Mexicans hated. Mexico got angry and started attacking. James K. Polk went to Congress and told them what was happening and said that Mexicans were attacking Americans on American soil. Every Congressman agreed to start a war, except one man, Abraham Lincoln, who stood up bravely and said "How do you know this is American soil." But was ignored and the war began between Mexico and the US. Eventually the U.S won!!!!!

It can be said to have begun with the Grito de Dolores. Some date it to the earlier but failed Conspiracy of the Machetes. In either case it had it earliest genesis with and among the peasants of Mexico.
