Andres Bonifacio was a key figure in the Philippine revolution against Spanish colonization. He founded the revolutionary society called the Katipunan, which played a crucial role in sparking the fight for independence. Emilio Aguinaldo fought for independence for the Philippines. He was the 1st President of the Philippines, serving from 1899 to 1901.
To gain its independence from the United States, the Philippines sent a number of missions to the US Congress. The first of these missions was led by Manuel L. Quezon. This did not succeed. Another mission was led by Sergio Osmeña and Manuel Roxas, named as the OSROX mission. This was successful and led to the eventual independence of the Philippines.
