The US declared war and then won that war. The final "revenge" for the attack by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, is seen by many to be the dropping of nuclear weapons on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
Even if it is unintentional, the tone of the question is regrettable. We are talking about a devastating world war and the loss of many lives. It is possible that the questioner thinks the answer is the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but that really is not true. If the Japanese had surrendered following months of intensive air bombing, the US would have been pleased to end the war without dropping the atomic bombs. On the same hand, if the Japanese had surrendered after the deployment of the first bomb, the second would never have been dropped. "Getting back" was never the point. Probably even Truman would agree that it would have been better to end the war without the atomic bombs, if it could have been done quickly. A protracted and extremely bloody ground war with Japan was something that nobody wanted, with the possible exception of General MacArthur.
The US allied themselves with Canada, Great Britain, NZ etc and Pay back with another surprise attack which is drop a atomic bomb to Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Technically no one took over Pearl Harbor, but on December 7, 1941 @ 7:55 a.m. the Japanese attacked it in hopes of destroying everything they could. This attack sent the Americans into the second Worl War. The Americans got their revenge by dropping bombs in Japan.
