∙ 8y agoAlexander the great inherited from his father Philip a force of heavy cavalry. Alexander's opponents had used cavalry successfully to a certain extent by having javelins or even Archery bows. The well known fact that without the invention of the stirrup, cavalry was limited in its power.Alexander used his cavalry as shock troops. As with his heavy infantry, his cavalry wore armor, used shields, a shot lance, but most importantly a cavalry "spear". This weapon was about nine feet long and weighed four pounds. This was basically a lance, and its weight and length gave his cavalry more power and helped win many battles.
