In Japan: it ended with the US dropping the atomic bomb over Hiroshima on August 9 1945.

In Europe: it ended with US pushing into Germany. The Soviets surrounded Berlin and seiged the city. Hitler commited suicide. Berlin was captured by the Soviet Union the next day.
