Women were less respected as men. They had less rights and were restricted in employment opportunities. After getting married, women were expected to stay at home and care for the family, whilst the men went out to work. If the women in the homes worked, then the "man " was considered a failure in his house. Women only began working often when the men went off to war, to fill in the gaps and continue on with the men's work.
