The fight between Japan and the US began when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th, 1941. It ended when the US dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They did this to end the war quickly because if they invaded Japan with troops it would've cost the US 1-2 million lives. They simply wanted to end the war quickly.
