Nobody that has done any research into the crimes of JTR can say that Scotland Yard did not try their best to catch the man. There were many in law enforcement, from the lowest "bobby" to the highest detective, that put 110% into his capture. A large team of policemen conducted house to house inquiries, they drew up a lists and notes available today show they then decided who to look at more closely and who to dismiss. Material was collected and examined by the police appointed Surgeons. The Police asked Thomas Bond a Police Surgeon on the amount of required medical knowledge needed and his opinion on the first 5 murders, he concluded they were all done by the same person but was against the idea of any specialised knowledge being necessary. Because of the lack of success a Vigilante group patrolled the streets and hired private detectives who also had no success.
