1. Islam is not a new religion. It's the very first teaching sent to man since his arrival on planet earth. It's the way of Adam, the first man, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, and Jesus as well as all the prophets sent by the Almighty. Around 120,000 messengers were sent to every village town tribe etc....... In this sense Judaism and Christianity was Islam before it became tainted with cultural prejudice and superstitions. Basically, Islam is the uncompromising belief and ultimate love of the of the one and unique and only one Allah

2. The Qur'an states Mohammad was the First Muslim. Islam is a new Religion.

3. Both Muslims and non-Muslims can point back to 622 AD (the Hijira) as a critical point in the founding of the Islamic religion. Muslim doctrine states that Islam has always existed. However, many religions believe in the eternal existence of their faith. This isn't very useful to someone who seeks a historical answer rather than a faith-based answer. Therefore, 622 AD, or soon after with the recitation of the Quran by Mohammed is the more useful answer.
