I found the SG12 switch through a small engine repair shop. But as far as the SG10, still no luck!
pull straight out to remove the spool, wind in the direction of the arrow - to replace, feed the string through the hole and pull on it, keeping slight tension on the spool as you push it back into the head
pop the spool out wind string in direction of arrow, replace
You will have to replace the entire regulator assembly. The wire is not available.
Spool pins are used on sewing machines to hold the spool of thread. Most or vertical, some that are horizontal use a spool cap to secure the spool of thread. Some machine come with spool nets to cover the spool to ensure the thread enter the machine evenly. Some machines come with an extra spool pin that fits into a small hole on the top of the machine to hold a second spool of thread.
Cut two pieces of trimmer line about 6-8 ft long. Push the line into the opening in the spool until it comes out of the bottom of the spool. Place the end of the line into the small hole adjacent to the opening where the line came out of the spool. Pull the line tight while holding your finger on the line in the hole. Do this for both sides and then wind the spool in the reverse direction to fill the spool. Pull on the line occasionally to make sure the line is not binding up in the spool. There are spools that will take one single long line, where the center of the line is attached to a notch (or similar) in the center of the spool and then wound with one line on each side of the spool. Then, the end of each line is threaded through each hole in the trimmer head. It would be best if you consulted a user's manual. Locate the trimmer head at the shaft. Remove debris in the head. Cut a 14-inch piece of the trimmer line and fold it. Place the spool against the spindle. Feed the ends of the line through the eyelets. Push the spool down and pull the trimmer line tight with your hands. Tighten the spool.
Replace the head or redrill the hole and retap it for a bigger screw.
A spool of thread is very cheap. Spools of thread can be as cheap as a dollar or less a spool.
