there are many steps to a Nigerian weddings, sometimes the whole process can take a year or two or days depending on the couple if they want to space the process up.
here are the steps:
1. introduction
2. engagement (last 4-6 hours)
3. wedding ceremony (which includes reception and night party(sometimes ends in the morning)).
4. Thanksgiving (the bride will go to the husband church to celebrate, and each immediate side of the family will also celebrate in their church, either the bide or grooms church. Or if they are Muslim then it will be in a mosque, with the same process).
*thanksgiving has to be done the day after the wedding ceremony but the wedding ceremony doesn't have't to be done right after engagement, sometimes people space those two ceremony's from months to a year and some do it right after each other. Plus engagement doesn't have to be done right after introduction, it depends on the couple, but to make the long story short in Nigerian wedding celebrations these 4 steps have to be done but the timing between intorduction, engagement and wedding ceremony is up to the couple.
p.s. put in Nigerian weddings in Google search or YouTube and you'll see some visual examples.
It depends on each tribe because each tribe has various differences in the traditions, customs and religious practices they do in a engagement. However there are more similarities in engagement ceremonys between the yoruba and igbo tribe. To answer your question though engagements ceremonys have many practices and customes so it's hard to really say the process but to put the long story short; money, gifts, dancing and food is a must in a engagement ceremony, plus many other things that is sort of hard to explain right now. The best way is to attend one, it's easier to see it visually to understand the process better but I must add that it's a longer grueling process then a wedding ceremony, which always comes after a wedding ceremony.

Stone Age people likely had rituals or ceremonies to mark important events such as seasonal changes, hunting successes, or religious beliefs. These may have involved communal gatherings, feasting, dancing, or creating artwork. While they may not have celebrated in the same way we do today, evidence suggests that they had cultural practices to commemorate significant occasions.
