There are two different ways to have a wedding in Russia. The first is when the groom and some of his closest friends go to the bride's house and then they have to pay a ransom to the people on the bride's side, this is all in a humorous sense, then the get it to a car usually a limo and then go to the registration. On the way to the car they have to battle through neighbors and kids that are asking for coins, candies and free drinks. Then when they get through that everyone congratulates them by throwing rice and coins for them. In the other type of celebration it is a traditional Russian Orthodox wedding in the church and they follow all of the Russian Orthodox traditions and this usually takes 30 to 120 minutes. Neither of the weddings have bridesmaids, flower girls nor rehearsals and the best man and maid of honor are called witnesses. :P
