Water pump removal (V6) # Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery. # To get enough clearance, remove the radiator and coolant hoses from the pump. # Remove the fan and clutch assembly. # Loosen the alternator mounting bolts and drive belt. On some models, you may have to remove the alternator completely to get to the water pump bolts. Also you may have to remove the accessory drive belt pulley or tensioner and possibly the air conditioner compressor for the same reason. DO NOT REMOVE THE REFRIGERANT LINE FROM THE COMPRESSOR. # Remove the Water pump pulley. # Remove the bolts from the water pump noting what position the bolts are (Because of the different lengths) and remove the pump. # Remove all the gasket material from the surface on the front cover. # Install the new pump with 2 bolts, and then install all the bolts finger tight. # Working around the pump, tighten the bolts to proper torque. # Install the water pump pulley, and alternator and bracket if it was removed. # Install the radiator and connect the hoses. # Install all the belts and adjust to proper tension. # Install the fan and clutch assembly. # Connect the battery. # Fill the cooling system. # Start engine and check for leaks.
