Answering for myself (I'm gay and -- thanks to the State of Iowa -- married to my husband):
1. Just to be absolutely clear: this is about civil marriage, not the religious sacrament. Civil marriage is a partnership contract and -- like any other contract -- should be available to any two consenting adults who wish to enter into it. (In law, "partnerships" are a type of contract specifically designed for two people.) Some people who promote these amendments deliberately try to confuse civil and religious marriages.
2. Since the issue first came up in Hawaii, it has been a matter of record that the government had the right to discriminate between same-sex and opposite-sex couples -- if and only if they could offer an acceptable justification. In almost 20 years, no one has been able to offer that justification. It seems pretty obvious that there is no legal justification to ban same-sex marriage. This is why these amendments have been offered.
3. These amendments would make gay and lesbian people who wanted to marry into second-class citizens -- people who do not have the same rights as other Americans. This is unconstitutional and an offense to me as an American and a gay man.
He feels that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry. He feels that when the federal government refuses to recognize their marriages, they are violating the couples' constitutional rights.President Obama is a strong supporter of marriage equality.
i feel he is ready to get marriage now
To quote US Supreme Court nominee Elana Kagan when she appeared at a confirmation hearing, "no." There is no explicit constitutional right to marriage, same-sex or not. It is up to the individual states to set their own requirements for marriage, including gender. However, many feel that the full-faith-and-credit clause of the US Constitution, which has been used to require each state to recognize marriages performed in other states, also applies to same-sex marriage.
The question of rather the Supreme Court's power of judicial review should be strictly limited by a constitutional agreement is open for debate. Some people feel that it would be a good idea because they want to limit the court's power. Others feel that the court should be able to hear the cases they want.
Nurse is ok with the marriage,
I don't think it's just atheists who feel this - some people of all kind of beliefs and philosophies feel that marriage is not for them.
It brings stability in life.
Amendment = We feel like changing the law but can't alter the prexisting constitution. Thus we just add to it.
That's the Fifth Amendment.
Polling shows that most Americans have favorably received the ruling of the United States Supreme Court that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. There is, however, still a minority who continue to oppose the civil rights of minorities.
