Rather than increasing the progesterone levels you should aim at balancing the hormone levels - especially oestrogen. Soy foods are phytoestrogens and are effective in doing this. In general the more balanced and healthy your diet the more your hormones willbe in balance. Thyme and turmeric have been suggested as progesterone promoters (they are quite drinkable together in a tea). However, if your diet includes a lot of the bad stuff (white flour, white sugar, processed foods and alcohol etc) your body will be fighting without any nutritional help. Remember to keep hydrated and include omega 3 and 6 oils. Good luck!

How does progesterone play a role in a feedback mechanism?

"The corpus luteum synthesizes progesterone, estradiol, and 17-hydroxyprogesterone. The increased progesterone levels affect the thermoregulatory site in the hypothalamus and increase the core body temperature. Negative feedback from the increased release of estradiol and progesterone from the corpus luteum results in decreased serum LH and FSH levels in the luteal phase. If conception has not occurred, FSH levels increase again at the end of the luteal phase as the progesterone and estradiol levels decrease. The decrease in progesterone and estradiol levels results in shedding of the endometrium-i.e., menstruation. LH pulse frequency is high (90 minutes) and of low amplitude in the follicular phase. The pulse frequency and amplitude increase immediately before ovulation".

What is the role of progesterone in the reproductive cycle of the horse?

Progesterone is the hormone that maintains pregnancy in the cow. This is a sort of "barrier" that prohibits any hormonal reaction that would trigger the cow to begin parturition. If the progesterone "barrier" breaks down, estrogen levels increase promoting the consequential reaction to begin labour. Progesterone is still an important hormone when the cow is not pregnant. Progesterone levels increase to allow the corpus luteum to degrade and the ovary to start development of new oocytes or ovums. Progesterone levels begin to increase soon after ovulation (which occurs after the standing heat period), and last for around 20 days until the ovum reaches maturity and estrogen levels increase again.

Which effect does an increase in the hormone progesterone produce?

The ovaries produce progesterone. Changing progesterone levels could cause menstruation and menopausal symptoms that are not the norm. The hormone will help implant a fertilized egg in the uterus, or help maintain pregnancy. Progesterone is not to be taken while pregnant unless otherwise specified.

If your daughters progesterone levels came out high but shes had no period whats that mean?

Progesterone levels usually start to elevate when an egg is released from the ovary, rise for several days, and then either continue to rise with early pregnancy or fall to initiate menstruation. If progesterone levels do not rise and fall on a monthly basis, a woman may not be ovulating or having menstrual periods. If levels do not rise normally during an early pregnancy, the pregnancy may be ectopic and/or may be failing. If serial measurements do not show increasing progesterone levels over time, there may be problems with the viability of the placenta and fetus. Levels of progesterone will be naturally higher during pregnancies that involve multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) than those in which there is only one fetus. Increased progesterone levels also are seen occasionally with luteal ovarian cysts, molar pregnancies, and with a rare form of ovarian cancer. Increased levels are occasionally due to an overproduction of progesterone by the adrenal glands.
