Hi! I am a beekeeper. Bees have lots of eyes to see with. They can see your eyes, too, as that is a favorite target when they are mad. They will come for you eyes first if they are mad at you. I know this. I have had them come at my eyes when unprotected. Also, they may not sting you in the eyes, but something they emit does get in my eyes from time to time, and I have not even been stung. It makes my eyes swell shut, quite painful, and blinds me temporarily. This does not happen often though. In my almost 40 years of keeping these amazing creatures, I can count the times of being stung in the eyes on only one hand. No fear though. Mostly, bees are not aggressive and not really wanting to sting. If bees can see small flowerettes and the place to suck out the nectar, I believe they can see quite well. They have eyes that can see up and down and straight forward and all around. Yes, bees can see quite well. When they leave the hive, they circle around and look at the home they are leaving so that they might easily remember where to return. They spiral up, then zoom off in a straight "beeline" to the nectar source. In flowers that are quite large like honeysuckle, they do not go down into the flower as it is long,Trumpet-shaped and a place where they could easily be trapped by other insects coming into the flower and wanting to eat them. Other creatures love to eat bees, especially skunks and birds. Why not? They really are nice little sacs full of fresh nectar which is busily and automatically being turned into fresh honey in her honey pouch even as she is collecting it and while flying back to the hive. So, she will poke a hole near the apex of the honeysuckle bloom right through the side of the flower to suck out the nectar. Next time you see honeysuckle, take a look at the hole that most all of the flowers have in the side where the bees have poked through. This way, they can also see predators approaching and not get caught deep inside the honeysuckle bloom. Yes, bees can see quite well. They have compound and simple seeing equipment. Why it seems as if most of their heads are one giant eye!
