Look up under the handle and there's a hole perpendicular to the front of the glove box. Insert a small screw driver about an inch into the hole and pry gently towards the back of the truck which should release the glove box. It takes some encouragement, but remove the 2 screws holding the latch (from the inside of the glove box) and the latch should come free out the front.
Your best bet is a salvage yard.
I believe on the '96's you open the glove box and remove the screws on the top edge
On the inside of the firewall, below and behind the glove box.
Under the dash ,above the hump and left of the glove box.you will have to remove the glove box to access the screws.
try looking under or behind the glove compartment in the passenger side
Under the dash below glove box. You will see the blower motor and it's to the left of it. You will see a wire harness going to it.
I had the same problem with my 1995 LHS. The only remedy is to carry a set of pliers in your glove box. I replaced the cable handle once but it broke again.
some of them had a glove box light inside the glove box.
On my 2006 Dodge Ram, I removed the glove box by pressing the outer sides of the glove box inwardly and then let the box drop down.
