Gangs are terrible they take away freedom and merder inocient children and parents. DO NOT JOIN A GANG. they hurt people and are not who you should be involved in.
They give people in the community an opportunity to get to know one another. They help people feel a sense of pride in their local community.
They feel their territory is threatened and decide to fight or kill for what is "theirs".
you can help in many ways. 1) don't encourage gangs. 2) don't be friends with gangs OR people in gangs 3) most gangs do drugs, steal (rob), and hurt/kill people... DON'T DO IT 4) if you feel like you may get hurt or are concerned about yourself as well as others, you may want to talk to a teacher and/or the principle/ school councilor.
By giving people a shared experience and making them feel that they belong to a community
People who feel protected when they are around someone who is popular or people are afraid of. Sometimes they join gangs so that they are not bullied them selves or they don't want to get hurt and by joining a gang it makes them look cool and tough and not afraid......... hope this is the answer you are looking for x x
Gangs are dangerous 99 percent of the time. Why else would people be against gangs? They're scared of them... gangs are bastards they go running around killing people for no reason they have no life why they just go and find a job
Gangs are a group a people who live on the streets and commit crimes like: graffiti, robbing stores, robbing houses, steeling cars, and drinking, smoking, and do drugs under age. Gangs fill a need in a youth culture that experiences a void. They feel like a group where you can belong in a world that has rejected or ignored you. Unfortunately, gangs are a negative influence, they destroy lives and any potential for a young person involved, and make neighborhoods a harsh and fearful place. Older members are those that have no hope of having a normal life, have not learned how to function in society, and often enjoy the power of manipulating the younger generation. Gangs don't benefit the individual or the community and in most cases bring both down.
In the 1960's there really wasn't any gangs like today. For the most part they did exist in places like East LA or Compton, but as a whole they didn't exist. There has always been illegal people who use society to make money for themselves. In the 1920's the mafia became very powerful in the United States making illegal liquor, owning the trucking and building unions, handling the ports and controlling them, even owning garage companies. Of course, one of the largest gangs of the 1960's was the Hells Angles motorcycle club. They ran drugs and did other illegal activities, but the gangs like what we see today with young teens involved weren't that active. They were just starting . I think young men and women join gangs because they don't feel a connection to a church, family, or community so the gang becomes the important connection in their life. All of us need to feel connected to something or someone who is greater than we are.
Some good things about a community is that social interaction creates the feeling of people being part and parcel of that community. A negative aspect is that some people don't feel part of the community, so they don't contribute anything significant to the maintenance of the community structure.
Gangs offer the opportunity to make money by selling illegal drugs, they offer protection from other gangs or other dangerous people, and they give their members a warm sense of belonging and security, knowing that they have allies who will back them up. It makes perfect sense to people who have not found better ways to make their way in the world.
