The tip of the little swimmer contains a kind of fluid that is able to break down the shell of the egg. the fluid will change the surface of the egg enough so it can break through. Using a metaphor, it's like when you pour acid on a wooden table and it eats right through. It's the same principle (only less harsh and brutal as I just made it sound)
