To make a great kilt you simply need cloth cut to fit your body ( with wise) for a grown person maybe 32 inches wide and roughly six feet long( cna be shorter or longer length is not as important. Longer cloth will mean more wraps and more weight but make a warmer kilt. Traditionally a highlander would just lay the cloth out and wrap one end around him. The remainer would go over his shoulder and keep wrapping till all the material was used. A belt around the waist would help support it. I cheated and sewed a belt into mine to help support it. I also stitched in the pleats, traditionally they would just be folded in asd you wrapped the kilt
