After removing the wiper arms, carefully pry up the plastic grill. There are, I think, 5 plastic pins along the bottom of the grill and 2 at the two top corners. They'll fly away if you're not careful. With the grill off, there are 3 nuts around each wiper post and one behind the wiper motor that you can get at after removing 4 screws around the motor and pulling it away from the firewall.

Before you remove any nuts though, you may be able to repair your existing transmission by simply popping the socket at the end of one or more of the arms back on to the ball connected to the wiper post.

What size wipers does a 96 Mitsubishi mirage need?

The 1996 Mitsubishi Mirage wiper blade sizes are 20" drivers and 19" passenger side wiper blades. Do not buy by length-only however. See Sources and Related Links below for more information. Since there are over 22 different wiper arm attachments - be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.
