Take the console out then unhook the cable from the shifter. RAise the car and take it loose from underneath. Use stands when you are under the car.
Remove the shifter cable and switch from the drivers side of the transmission and the seal will be driven over the small shaft and into the transmission case. The shaft is the one that the shifter cable hooked to.
How to adjust the linkage on cable from steering column to transmission on a 1995 GMC Van?
Could be your shifter cable has stretched and you need to replace it? On my 1995 Saturn SL2 I could not keep the shifter in 3rd gear. I replaced the tranny with one from the junkyard and the problem still persisted. I talked to Saturn and they said it was my shifter cable. I installed the shifter cable and the new tranny goes into 3rd gear without any problems. Please use this as an FYI. It was time consuming and expensive to replace the shifter cable, but a lot less expensive than the tranny. Hopefully it is something simpler for you.
loosen cable(bolt on either side of the support) adjust the cable using the bolts, then re-tighten
The cable is self-adjusting meaning it is always correcting itself .you never have to touch it. Cool huh!
Remove the access panel for the flywheel underneath the car. Then there should be another panel you need to remove and the cable is bolted in. Unbolt it and trace it to the rear of the car.
how do you take off the shifter on a 1995 6speed corvette
If by some chance you are asking " why is my shifter stuck in park and you cannot shift out of park " then just turn the key to the first notch, no ign. lights, then put the shifter in neutral, start the car and drive to your local garage. They can fix it for you.
I believe it is adjustable from under the van. At the place where the bracket mounts to the tranny.
