a gear or a pully
In a vehicle, a driving gear is the gear which is driven by the engine. The driving gear helps control the speed the vehicle is in.
usually a linkage problem - adjust linkage that connects transmission to gear shift
The drive gear will turn faster. If the driving gear was twice the size of the drive gear, the drive gear would rotate twice for every revolution of the said driving gear.
Gear drive
You are speaking about the different gear shifts... Drive, 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd gears on an automatic vehicle. Drive should be used most of the time and the other gears only when hauling heavy weight or climbing steep terrains. You should adjust them according to speed. 1st gear going the slowest.
In a mopar 440 the distributor drive gear notch is set inline with the crankshaft, but it's just a reccomended starting point as long as you have enough space to turn the distributor in either direction to adjust timing when installed.
Check the shifter linkages and adjust if needed. The linkage may be in d2 when the indicator shows drive.
The "driving" or drive gear is the source of power or rotation. The driven gear is turned or moved by the drive gear. Example: The pulley on a motor is the drive pulley and a pulley on a pump is the driven pulley. Example: The pinion gear in a differential is the drive gear and the ring is the driven gear.
How to adjust the shifter on a Harley Davidson
If the injection pump drive gear was broke loose to re-adjust the timing, after running the gear may have slipped on the pump shaft causing it to go so far out that the engine will not run. Before the gear is torqued and seated, the pump shaft and drive gear bore have to be clean. Contact cleaner works the best.
