Get a good natural bristle brush, Purdy makes good ones. They are well worth the extra expense. You will get much better results. I can't emphasize enough how much better the results will be with a good brush! The finish will be much smoother! Sand the surface of the wood until it is smooth and brush away all the dust. Do not get the wood wet now.
Put on one thin coat. Allow it to dry. Lightly sand the surface. Apply another coat. You can put on another coat. Read the manufactorers instructions for drying times and optimal number of coats. Another thing, don't buy cheap brushes or finishes. I'm a real penny pincher, but I've found that I end up spending more money when I try to use cheaper products of this sort.
He had a lovely finish. fyi...Shellac is a wood cleaner
Sure, go ahead. I would use a water based paint, but finish it with several coats of shellac, children tend to put toys in their mouths, shellac will not hurt them.
Shellac is actually the technically appropriate finish to apply to 18th and 19th century furniture since this was the type of finish generally used originally, with shellac a new innovation at that time. In fact, it is not even always necessary to strip off the old shellac when refinishing, depending on the condition.
The best way to stain cabinets is to apply the stain over shellac then shellac over the stain last step Zip Guard over that to protect surface from moisture damage
if you prime with sealer, such as parks white shellac, or kilz oil base.stele65
no there is not because shellac is created by a bug.
That is the correct spelling of the word "shellac" (referring to a varnish). The same spelling is used as a proper name by a band Shellac.
Production of Shellac records started in 1898
There are two basic meanings for "shellac." One is the varnish used to coat wood, as in a wood floor - perhaps he meant for everyone to crowd onto the dance floor. Another meaning is an old vinyl record, so he might have meant to ask for lots of requests so that he could pile lots of records on top of each other.
The Futurist - Shellac album - was created in 1997.
