- Often the step son misses his biological father; some sons resent another man coming between his mother and the son. It takes patience and time to win over a step son. Don't try to take the place of the biological father, but treat your step son as a friend. Perhaps go camping or fishing together even if he doesn't want to go so you have a one on one with him. If he is into sports then be there for the games as much as possible; help him practice if you can. In time he will mature and also warm up to you. It is also wise to let his mother do the disciplining at the present time simply because you are not his biological father.
